What is freedom?

Freedom, in its deepest and purest form, is far more than just a concept or an idea—it is an inner state, a feeling of being unbound that extends far beyond the limits of external circumstances. In this state of freedom, every thought and feeling that arises within me becomes part of my being, without me feeling the need to judge or criticize it. It is a way of being in which I shape my life according to my own will, free from the shackles of concepts and ideals that I have acquired throughout my personal history.

A wise teacher of mine once coined the phrase, “If you want to be braver, be braver.” At first glance, this advice seems simple and straightforward—as if a mere change in behavior were enough to bring about profound change. But the truth is that a person who is not free inside cannot truly make free decisions. The ability to be courageous does not come solely from a decision, but also from the freedom that makes that decision possible.

Freedom also means taking 100% responsibility for my own life. Every moment I blame circumstances, the government, the climate, or fate for my situation, I give up a piece of my freedom and self-determination. True freedom requires that I break free from the tendency to blame others and instead take full responsibility for my life and my decisions.

In this sense, freedom is not only a goal, but also a path. It is a continuous process of growth, self-discovery, and overcoming internal and external barriers. Being free means continuously developing, facing challenges, and growing beyond oneself. It is a lifelong journey that requires courage, determination, and the willingness to hold up a mirror to one’s own soul and to recognize and accept the deepest truths of our being.
